Championship Training began with 2 athletes. We didn’t have a building, so we trained year-round at local parks in Missoula. Those two athletes’ commitment and success helped build Championship Training into the gym it is today. October 1st 2009 we were able to open the Dojang (Korean for formal training hall) in an old warehouse, complete with a leaky ceiling, a scary bathroom, and rats. We opened with 5 athletes. We quickly moved from that location into our space on Stephens where we spent 10 years. Although that space served us well and we will have lifelong memories there, our student base and dream were growing, and we needed a bigger space to accommodate this. We were fortunate to grow into the Old Cold Springs school gym for 2.5 years before moving to our current location. Although it’s not a large and fancy gymnasium, we no longer have rats or a leaky roof, andChampionship Training’s purpose to build strong, positive, and confident leaders through martial arts has never wavered. We strive to create an atmosphere of safety and camaraderie, allowing students to explore their natural strengths and talents in a supportive and challenging way conducive to self- growth. Given our years of experience and understanding of learning styles, no 2 children are approached the same. Each student has a unique goal and path that enables them to utilize their own strengths in the most efficient and productive way, while still preserving all of the benefits of a team training environment. We appreciate you choosing to train with us given the numerous other options available in Missoula and we do not take that decision lightly!
Because leadership, hard work, and accountability are paramount to creating strong, confident, and positive humans, Master Corbin does not hand out belts. There is a specific curriculum at the Dojang detailing what is expected for each belt promotion level. If a student does not meet these criteria, they will not pass their test. At Championship Training we don’t believe in failure, only learning opportunities. Master Corbin believes strongly that as a leader himself, he is responsible for preparing your child for success and so if they do not pass their belt test, they simply go to work to ensure that when the next opportunity arises there will be success.
